What is hypnosis and what is it not?

Hypnosis is a natural state, just as being awake and being asleep. It is a state of deep relaxation and at the same time heightened attention and alertness. In addition to it, in deep hypnosis the thinking mind, the “filtering” part of it, is no longer active and we have access to information in our subconscious that we would not have in the awake state. This does not mean, that in hypnosis we become slaves who are subject to the will of the hypnotist. We do have the option to say no and cannot be forced to do anything. We are present and aware, we perceive everything going on around us and remember everything afterwards. The practice of putting people in hypnosis deliberately is ancient. There are many different ways, techniques and methods to do it and the practice itself is neither good nor bad. It depends on how it is used.

What is RTT®?

RTT® (Rapid Transformational Therapy) is a modern approach of hypnotherapy used to solvemental and physical problems. It stands out for having a huge and permanent success after one or a few sessions, resolving issues that sometimes could not be solved in years of other conventional therapies. The reason for it is, that in RTT® the access to the subconscious allows us to find out and understand the sources for certain problems at the deepest level and to resolve those. There is a huge variety of issues that can be addressed with RTT®, for instance addictions, depression, anxiety disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), neuroses, sleeping disorders, weight issues and infertility. In many cases of disease the healing process can be massively supported when the self-healing powers of the body and mind are activated through hypnosis. People who struggle with procrastination, nail biting or other habits they wish to give up can be helped very effectively with RTT®. It can be used to overcome problems and also to increase one’s potential and productivity in order to achieve personal goals. A growing number of olympic athletes, artists and business people use hypnosis to enhance their performance and take it to the next level. The RTT® method is modern and unique, it combines ancient wisdom with modern science, it was developed by the world renowned hypnotherapist Marisa Peer over a period of a few decades.

How is sensitive information dealt with?

Everything my clients tell me is of course strictly confidential and stays between us. As part of my job and also my personality, I am very open and do not judge people, also not for things that might seem embarrassing, even more so, because that is what I am there for. Nevertheless, I of course understand and respect, when one prefers not to share certain things, even in hypnosis. When memories are too intimate and too private, one can choose to keep it to themselves. As long as the person recognises and understands the meaning of it in its particular context, success is still possible.

Does hypnosis only work with certain people?

No. Hypnosis is a natural state and we can all be hypnotised. We are in and out of hypnosis in our daily lives without even realising it, for instance when we drive, when we watch television or when we perform any task in so called “auto-pilot”, meaning when we execute an activity we are used to without thinking about it, we are in hypnosis to a certain degree.

Can it be dangerous or risky to have a hypnosis session? Could I afterwards be worse than before?

No. Using the method I learned it is not possible to do any damage, that is how I was trained. I follow a “do-no-harm” principle and a very clear and strict code of conduct concerning ethics and professionalism and have only learned to apply tools and techniques that can help and not make anything worse. The worst that can happen is that nothing changes, and that happens rarely. The client has the responsibility to participate in their healing or recovery and that includes following the instructions and recommendations given by me, also after the session. The course and duration of improvement is individual and varies from person to person, but a significant change for the better happens (almost without exception) always.

What if in hypnosis traumatic memories come up that had long been forgotten or suppressed?

This can happen and it may be a concern to some people, understandably. A few things are important to know about this. While it may be painful, sad, scary and uncomfortable to remember something traumatic in hypnosis, it is not possible to relive it or to be under the impression of reliving it. It is more like watching the experience on a television screen, reviewing it. My job in such situations is to provide support, reassurance and as much guidance as necessary through that process, to make my clients feel safe and help them allow the pain to find a way of expression and release, that is what I was trained to do. Often a heavy case like that can be a chance for the person to get rid of an emotional baggage they didn’t know they had. We do not linger in such memories any longer than necessary. What is important is to recognise, understand the causes of suffering and to give feelings that need to be felt the space for it. Where tears flow healing begins. Encountering a forgotten trauma can be a particularly healing and relieving experience.

Is it possible to not come out of hypnosis ever again?

No, that is not possible. This along with other misconceptions and myths around hypnosis is fiction. In case of the hypnotist leaving the room (hypothetically) or the online session being interrupted, one of two things can happen: Either the hypnotised person comes out of hypnosis on their own or he/she eventually falls asleep and wakes up later like after a nap.

Are there cases in which hypnosis not appropriate?

For people who have epilepsy and also patients with schizophrenia or psychosis, hypnosis is not appropriate. Furthermore, a hypnosis session must not be regarded as a substitute for medical treatment nor to diagnose any disease. It can however be used as additional support to a healing process.
